Our Opportunity
The laboratory technician is responsible for assisting in all laboratory and field research & development functions, including preparing and testing samples and reporting results to senior researchers. The position offers the opportunity to gain knowledge while working with a variety of materials relevant to the construction industry including cements, polymers, adhesives, and chemical admixtures.
Responsibilities
- Test physical properties of cements, polymers, and adhesive from both field and laboratory preparations, using both ASTM standards and internal test procedures.
- Prepare samples for testing at a range of scales, from laboratory to full room installations. Activities include mixing or powders and liquids, pouring, cutting, and polishing.
- Provide field sales support through the strength testing of field cubes and sands.
- Provide physical testing of sound mat and related activities as needed to support sound mat products and sound system development.
- Organize and maintain identification of samples originating from many locations. Record sample preparation and test result data using digital tools.
- Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and tools. Complete and coordinate regular calibration and repair of instruments. Maintain inventory of standard laboratory supplies.
- Gain practical application experience while assisting in field trials of new and existing products and in on-site technical service. (Travel <10%)
- Technical degree or laboratory experience in a related field.
- Excellent organizational skills and record keeping; completion of sample testing and reports in a timely fashion.
- Clear and timely communication of project status and issues; the ability to multitask and handle changes in priority.
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to contribute to team projects; have a collaborative and positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including direct customer support.
- Required software skills are Microsoft Office, and ability to learn lab instrument software.
- Work safely around chemicals, high temperatures, power tools and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
